It’s that time of the year again.
The first day of classes will be Wednesday, September 7th and we look forward to seeing everyone again for the new season. There are a number of important items in this email, so please read to the end.
As some of you may already know Sensei Greg is dealing with some health issues this year so he will not be with us for this coming season. We all wish him the best and hope for a speedy recovery. At some point in the coming weeks we will have a card for everyone to sign to send their best wishes to him. Regardless, this has created some challenges with our scheduling, but we are extremely pleased that this season we will have Sensei Steve Starnes joining us as one of our instructors. He has been a regular visitor to the Newmarket Budokan for the past number of years and is very excited to be joining us full time. Sensei Steve has been around judo for more than 50 years and has a wealth of knowledge that he is looking forward to passing on. He is a former World Masters gold medalist and will be competing once again in Florida later this year.
Schedule (NEW TIMES AND CLASSES)
This year we are changing up our class format in the hope that our classes are better suited to the student’s level while at the same time giving them opportunities to work with more advanced students.
Classes will be as follows:
Monday and Wednesday
6:00 to 7:00 Junior Judo
7:00 to 9:00 Intermediate/Senior Judo
Students will have the opportunity to move back and forth between the 6:00 and 7:00 classes depending on their ability and maturity level. For each of these classes we will be concentrating our instructors and splitting the classes into groups with instructors and helpers for each.
10:00 to 12:00 Junior/Intermediate and Family Judo
We are excited this year to give parents who are members the opportunity to work with their children on the mat with our new Saturday morning class. Of course adults without children in the club are more than welcome to come and work out as well.
